:: A plot to die for ::
Sunday, October 10, 2004
In the early 1800's fear of yellow fever outbreaks in New York City prompted legislation outlawing traditional earthen graves, forcing new city cemeteries to inter their dead in private underground vaults. I toured the two oldest of such cemeteries today as part of Open House New York.
Gothamistas Bluejake and Tien Mao have some additional macabre photos. Arnest Fink seems to have made a name for himself with his terse vaultstone.
