:: Know your umlaut ::

Two little dots above a vowel can mean a lot. They can indicated altered tonality, identify the vowel as an entirely distinct letter from its un-dotted relative, direct the reader to avoid a diphthong, specify pronunciation of an otherwise silent letter, or communicate your reverence for heavy-metal. Interesting stuff.

I've always wished that the band 'Dokken' had an umlaut. Those bastards couldn't even get their name right.
