:: The other shoe has dropped ::

Sunday, June 15, 2003

I am disappointed to announce that after over two years of valiant, dependable, dedicated, and nigh-constant service, I am retiring my old pair of shoes. They served me well and I wish them luck in their new pursuit as doorstops. Unfortunately, as is often the case with old age, their usefulness waned; the growth of an unsightly and debilitating gash in particular precluded continued service. While gone, they will not be forgotten for their legendary versatility, protecting my feet and providing unparalleled traction while hiking down the Grand Canyon and groveling for doughnuts while destitute on the street.

I've prepared my sneakers with waterproof product. Sandal soles recently repaired. Boots resealed twice. Second time: beeswax for the seams. Tender care and energy to one's footwear will reward itself in the end. Leaving for Alaska tomorrow with fine tuned footwear.
